Meet the Eye Doctors

  • Dr.
    Catherine S Kim
    Dr. Kim specializes in complicated contact lenses fittings and dry eye treatment in addition to providing comprehensive eye care to patients and their families. She has extensive expertise in fitting RGP (rigid gas permeable) and scleral lenses, to help patients who have Keratoconus, Pellucid Marginal Degeneration, severe dry eyes and other corneal diseases & dystrophies, as well as post-refractive LASIK surgery complications. She has also worked on various dry eye research projects and clinical studies with Dr. Barbara Caffery.

    She received her B.A. in Biology at Cornell University in New York and her M.Sc. in Molecular Biology at the University of Toronto. She graduated from The New England College of Optometry in Boston in 2001, after being a member of the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society for all four years of optometry school and a Clinical Scholar. Afterwards, she completed a residency in Cornea and Specialty Contact Lenses/Primary Care at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2002. She successfully passed the national board exams in both Canada and the U.S. In 2006, after completing both written case reports and an oral examination, she became a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry (F.A.A.O.)

    Upon completing her studies, Dr. Kim practiced in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA while her husband worked at the Los Alamos National Lab in cancer research for his post-doctoral fellowship. In 2004, they returned to her hometown, Toronto, and she worked in optometry & ophthalmology practices before opening her own practice, Clear with her team, in 2015.

    Dr. Kim works hard to stay current on the latest advances in eye health and vision care. She regularly attends continuing education seminars and advanced training courses such as the American Academy of Optometry’s annual conference. Dr. Kim's dedication to continuing education contributes to her giving our patients the most modern and progressive vision care available.Dr. Kim is an active member of both the Ontario and Canadian Association of Optometrists, the American Academy of Optometry and the College of Optometrists of Ontario. Dr. Kim lives in Toronto with her husband, Dr. J. Carl Kumaradas, a Medical Physics Professor at Ryerson University, their two boys and their two dogs. She loves living in the same area as the clinic, so she can truly be part of the community as the neighbourhood eye doctor. She enjoys both visual and performance arts and sports. She loves playing hockey with her team, the Rubys!

    Sabrina Sgroi
    Dr. Sabrina Sgroi received her Honours Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science with a minor in Biology at the University of Waterloo in 2009. She discovered her passion of eye care while working as an Optometric Assistant upon her graduation and proceeded to continue her education to earn her Doctor of Optometry at the New England College of Optometry ( NECO ) in Boston in 2014. She maintained her membership in the Beta Sigma Kappa International Optometric Honor Society for high academic achievement during her studies for all four years of optometry school.

    During her time at NECO, Dr. Sgroi received training in the treatment and management ocular health and disease at several clinics throughout New England region including Boston Medical Center, Tifts Medical Center, the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Brockton, MA and the New England Eye Low Vision Clinic at Perkins. She is a board certified to practice in both Canada and the United States.

    Dr. Sgroi is a member of the Ontario Association of Optometrists, the Canadian Association of Optometrists, and the college of Optometrists in Ontario. In addition to this, she is a member of The Alpha Omicron Pi International Women's Fraternity which she is a founding member of the Lambda Epsilon Chapter at the University of Waterloo and served as Chapter President in 2008.

    Dr. Sgroi believes that patient education is an essential component of disease prevention and maintaining clear and healthy vision. She prides herself in having strong communication skills and is dedicated to understanding her patients in order to provide the highest quality of care.
